Colin James Hay (born 29 June 1953 in Kilwinning, Scotland) is a Scottish‑Australian musician and producer based in Topanga, Los Angeles. He is best known as the lead vocalist and sole continuous member of the band Men at Work. Within drum-and-bass/jungle contexts his most concrete credit is re‑recording vocals in 2021–2022 for Luude’s drum‑and‑bass remix of “Down Under.”
Hay emigrated with his family to Melbourne, Australia at age 14. Men at Work split in 1986; Hay launched a solo career after that split and has recorded and toured as a solo artist since. He relocated to the United States, taking up residence in Topanga, Los Angeles, in 1989. He established the independent label Lazy Eye Records in 1994. Hay became a U.S. citizen in January 2016.
Public documentation of Hay’s activity specifically inside drum‑and‑bass and jungle is limited to the Luude project: in 2021–2022 he re‑recorded the vocal parts for a drum‑and‑bass rework of “Down Under,” supplying new lead takes that were incorporated into Luude’s production. That session is the clearest, verifiable point where Hay’s voice and original melody were adapted into a contemporary DnB framework.
Outside that remix credit, Hay’s concrete career contributions are rooted in his role with Men at Work and his long solo output. He remains active as a recording and touring solo artist. He also runs Lazy Eye Records (est. 1994), a label that handles releases and catalogue management tied to his post‑Men at Work work. Those label and solo activities are the bases from which any crossovers into electronic reworks — such as the Luude drum‑and‑bass version — have been authorised and tracked.
Specific production credits in drum and bass beyond the 2021–2022 Luude vocal sessions are not publicly listed. Likewise, detailed technical notes (mixing approach, break editing, bass design) tied directly to Hay’s name in the DnB realm are not available in public sources. The verifiable link between Hay and drum‑and‑bass remains his vocal re‑recording for Luude’s remix of “Down Under.”
If you’re tracking Hay’s current activity: he lives in Topanga, continues to record and tour as a solo artist, runs Lazy Eye Records (1994), and holds U.S. citizenship as of January 2016. His 2021–2022 re‑recording with Luude stands as his documented point of contact with the drum‑and‑bass world.
