Wagner Ribeiro de Souza (born September 15, 1976), known professionally as DJ Patife, is a Brazilian DJ and producer from São Paulo working in drum and bass, jungle and liquid-funk-leaning styles.
Patife first reached international attention in the late 1990s. His tracks appeared on the Brazil EP released by V Recordings, and he issued the compilation/mixtape DJ Patife Presents Sounds of Drum 'n' Bass in 1999. Those releases established him outside Brazil and helped define his profile as both a selector and a studio producer.
He is regularly associated with the Brazilian "sambass" strand of drum and bass. Patife has produced official remixes for Brazilian artists including Fernanda Porto and Max de Castro, bringing his DnB approach to established Brazilian vocal and MPB-derived material. Sources also note he has spent time based in Brasília during his career.
Musically, Patife’s work ties Brazilian rhythmic DNA to drum-and-bass break programming. His productions characteristically layer samba-influenced percussion and pitched melodic fragments over programmed breaks. That approach uses chopped and re-sequenced breakbeats alongside Brazilian percussion samples and warm low-end lines, which places many of his tracks in the liquid/sambass intersection rather than the harder, neuro end of the spectrum.
On the production side, Patife’s recordings favour clear midrange percussion and melodic motifs that sit above rolling sub-bass; as a DJ he has been known to blend those productions with tighter break edits and vocal-led remixes when playing out. Those choices show in his 1999 Sounds of Drum 'n' Bass release and in his remix work for Fernanda Porto and Max de Castro, where he adapts Brazilian vocal material into DnB structures.
Within Brazilian drum and bass circles he is repeatedly cited alongside peers such as DJ Marky as a key figure who brought local rhythmic elements into the wider DnB conversation. His late‑1990s releases on V Recordings and his subsequent remixes remain the clearest, verifiable markers of that contribution.
