AAI is beyond excited to present 食品まつり a.k.a foodman a.k.a Takahide Higuchi at AAI on December 18th from 7-9pm. Foodman (食品まつり/Takahide Higuchi) is a Japanese electronic producer, DJ, and painter. He has been releasing music since 2011 and is based in Yokohama. His work first gained traction in the early 2010s when he was recognised as a leading name in Japan's footwork and juke scene.
His ever-evolving and mutating musical vocabulary draws from every kind of music he stumbles across, from Chicago footwork to Okinawan folk music of his roots, ambient to J-pop, Talvin Singh's Indian classical music/drum 'n' bass fusion to classic video game soundtracks, then twists them all with his playful psychedelia. This extends to his remixes and DJ mixes, including his monthly residency at NTS radio mix.
Opening for Foodman is Philly local DJ Yolo Ono who cut her teeth with the likes of Mad Decent and Factory Girls crews.
Marissa is a multi-hyphenate creative, DJ, experience designer, and community builder based in Philadelphia. Under the stage name Yolo Ono, debuting in 2011, she has continued to perform alongside acts such as James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, Venus X, Maluca, Princess Nokia, Anna Lunoe, Uniique, VanJess, Masego, and Jess Jubilee. Yolo carries her versatile style across a variety of events, including music festivals such as Coachella & Governer's Ball, as well as in-store events, award shows, conventions/summits, and workout classes/yoga retreats. In addition to DJing, she created a non-alcohol-centered event series called Club Connection that invites connection to self & others though lo-fi DJ nights, book swaps, hikes, and beyond. She also consults with Soho House Cities without Houses in Philadelphia to build community around creatives.
Don’t miss this chance to experience Yolo Ono and Foodman's unique live sets and explore the unpredictable world of footwork, live at Philly at Asian Arts Initiative.
