I LOVE NEON
Neon is a movement dedicated to throwing quality events in innovative settings. NEON began as a concept & quickly became a collective in late 1998 when friends Tiga, Justin, Mark & John teamed up to create the perfect club night that could house the groups eclectic & ever growing musical & visual tastes. Music was evolving, but the existing clubs were getting boring & formulaic. The new club night the four were designing was to stay true to its mission of quality & originality. The Idea was to do away with the traditional club look & feel & start from scratch, doing away with club politics & introducing interior & graphic design, mood & lighting elements that would match the new sounds that were developing throughout the world. Everything had to change, the layout of the venue physically & visually to accommodate the new musical sound NEON was introducing. Since its creation, NEON has been through many incarnations & almost as many venue changes until settling down at the now defunct Jai Bar in 1999 for a 1 year stretch until the club shut its doors in early 2000. In 2001 NEON took a small break to find the perfect venue to accommodate their growing following and satisfy the need for a new, raw space with quality sound & atmosphere that wasn’t an existing night club. In that same year NEON moved into the SAT, (The Society for Art & Technology) a digital art research facility and art gallery, which provided NEON with the solution it needed; a bigger space that could fit more people comfortably & that could also be completely transformed physically every time to suit the needs of each individual event. In 2009 NEON celebrated it’s 10th birthday & produces 50 shows per year at various venues in and around Montreal. NEON still consistently drawn capacity crowds to all of its events.
