Metalheadz is a pioneering British drum and bass label founded in 1994 by Goldie alongside DJs Kemistry & Storm. Emerging from the heart of the UK rave scene, the imprint quickly became a cornerstone of the genre, renowned for its innovation, technical mastery and fearless approach to sound. The label’s inaugural release, a split 12" featuring Doc Scott’s VIP Drumz and Goldie’s VIP Riders Ghost , set the tone for a catalogue that pushed drum and bass into new territory. Seminal releases from artists such as Dillinja, Photek, Source Direct and J Majik defined the sound of the mid-1990s, establishing Metalheadz as a label synonymous with forward-thinking production and uncompromising creativity. In 1995, the launch of the Sunday Sessions at London’s Blue Note club cemented the label’s legacy. These iconic nights provided a platform for experimentation, where both established producers and rising talent could debut new material and shape the future of the scene. The influence of these sessions continues to resonate across drum and bass culture today. Marking its 30th anniversary in 2024, Metalheadz remains at the forefront of the genre. With a legacy built on artistic integrity and innovation, the label continues to inspire new generations, releasing cutting-edge music while honouring its historic role in the evolution of drum and bass.
