Kinky Star is a youth and music centre focusing on alternative genres and young debut artists. We are a meeting place for music lovers, musicians and artists of all kinds. Kinky Star is non-commercial. We strongly believe in the importance of DIY and artistic independence and are a springboard for emerging musicians. The club is open from Wednesday to Sunday. Every day there is something fun to do. To be on stage yourself, it is best to send your demos and tracks to programmatie@kinkystar.com. The programming is not done by one person. Our music editorial team consists of several dozen contributors and volunteers, each of whom has the opportunity to voice their opinions. Kinky Star relies 97% on the work of our many volunteers, from programming to tapping fresh pints at our gigs. Our crew members are truly the cleanest people around. Good news by the way,you too can become a volunteer. Kinky Star has existed since 1997. That's when Luc Waegeman, the former drummer of the SeXmachines, founded the club. The band decided to release their own record, which eventually led to the Kinky Star label and its associated café and stage. Want to know more about our history? Then be sure to read our book on 20 years of Kinky Star. By the way, did you know that we also make radio? Organise art exhibitions? Guide bands and help new collectives? Read more about our various projects here. Kinky Star is a home for music, art and people. You will find us at Vlasmarkt 9 in Ghent.
