Jamie Quinn, known professionally as Matrix, is a British drum and bass producer and DJ based in London. He began releasing tracks under the Matrix name in 1994 and works primarily within drum and bass and liquid funk.
Matrix’s early activity on record precedes his work as a label owner: he founded Metro Recordings in the late 1990s. His first full-length release as Matrix was the LP Sleepwalk, issued on Virus Recordings in 2000.
As a producer and DJ, Matrix’s output sits in the melodic, club-focused side of drum and bass commonly labelled liquid funk. His productions feature layered atmospherics and melodic elements alongside the rolling drum patterns and sub-bass presence expected in the subgenre. On the production side he presents polished mixes aimed at both sound-system play and radio-friendly clarity; as a DJ he has translated those studio productions into sets that bridge dancefloor rollers and more vocal-led material.
In 2005 Jamie Quinn formed the duo Matrix & Futurebound with producer and DJ Brendan Collins. The pair released the album Universal Truth in 2007 and went on to place singles on the UK charts, including "All I Know" (2012) and "Control," which peaked at number 7 in January 2014. Those releases mark a clear crossover from underground singles to mainstream chart recognition while retaining Matrix’s producer/DJ credits.
Fact-based connections in Matrix’s career include his label founding (Metro Recordings, late 1990s), his 2000 LP Sleepwalk on Virus Recordings, and the collaborative project Matrix & Futurebound with Brendan Collins beginning in 2005, which produced Universal Truth (2007) and the charting singles "All I Know" (2012) and "Control" (peaked at #7 in Jan 2014). Public biographical detail beyond these points is limited; where available, accounts emphasize his roles as producer, DJ and label founder across the 1990s–2010s.
