Zero Tolerance

Cian McCann — known on record as Zero T and formerly as Zero Tolerance — is an Irish-born producer and DJ working in drum & bass and jungle. Born in Dublin and based in London, he began releasing music in 1999 and operates across bass music, breakbeat and related styles while remaining best known for vocal-driven, rolling drum & bass.

McCann’s first recorded outputs appeared in 1999, with early releases on the Irish Bassbin label and a debut on Reinforced Records. Since those first tracks he has released material on Metalheadz, Shogun, Soul:r, Signature and CIA. In 2010 he launched the Footprints label as an outlet for his own music and for other artists.

Public discography notes list multiple studio albums and a number of mix compilations; his catalogue also includes a contribution to the FabricLive series. Across releases and mixes he is repeatedly described as favouring vocal-led arrangements and steady, rolling drum patterns rather than purely amelodic or maximalist approaches.

Musically, Zero T’s work is commonly described as vocal-driven, with arrangements that foreground sung hooks or vocal samples over continuous, groove-led drum programming. That approach shows up in his remixes and original productions, where phrasing and vocal placement are used to shape drop and breakdown sections. His tracks emphasise forward-moving drum sequencing and basslines that lock with the kick and sub rather than sitting purely as textural low-end — a characteristic that aligns his output with rolling drum & bass and liquid-leaning material within his wider palette of breakbeat and bass music.

On the production side he is credited with a consistent focus on mix clarity and musical arrangement across studio albums and compilations. On the scene he has created remixes for established names including Dillinja, Goldie, Lenzman and Lenny Fontana, and those remix credits underline his role as a producer who works directly with other artists’ material as well as his own.

Zero T’s Footprints label, founded in 2010, functions as a platform for his releases and for other producers’ work. His recorded output, label activity and mix contributions (including FabricLive) form the concrete record of his contribution to drum & bass and adjacent bass-led styles. Public biographical detail beyond these release credits and label activity is limited, but the established facts above define his career to date.
