Bou

Mohamed Amine Bouguenna — known professionally as Bou — is an Algerian-British producer and DJ based in Manchester. Born 16 November 1996 in Algeria, Bou works primarily within drum and bass and jungle, with a sound that draws on jump-up and rollers influences.

Bou’s early life involved several moves: his family left Algeria during the Algerian Civil War when he was five, then lived in France, later Ashford in Kent, and eventually Monsall in Manchester. He played his first DJ set in 2014 and released his first single, "Movements", in 2015. From those early appearances he moved into recorded collaborations and higher-profile releases while continuing to perform as a DJ.

Musically Bou’s production sits where jump-up weight meets rollers’ momentum. His tracks emphasise strong low-end presence and rhythmic forward motion: bands of sub‑bass that push the mix, compact, punchy drum edits that lock the groove, and short percussive accents that keep energy moving through the arrangement. In studio work he favours concise arrangements built around a dominant bassline, tightly tuned kick/snare relationships and clear break edits rather than long ambient passages — qualities that make his productions translate on sound-systems and in DJ sets. Where atmosphere appears, it’s used sparingly as an accent to the bass and drum focus rather than as a long-form pad layer.

As a contributor to other artists’ work, Bou’s credits include a feature on Bru‑C’s "Streetside", which reached UK No.84 and was certified Gold by the BPI. He achieved wider commercial visibility with "Closer" featuring Slay, released on Island Records and peaking at UK No.24, and with "Baddadan", a collaboration with Chase & Status that reached UK No.5. Those tracks charted at national level and are concrete markers of his crossover into larger-label releases and mainstream chart performance while retaining drum and bass production elements.

Bou’s role in the scene is primarily studio‑facing as a producer and live-facing as a DJ. He programs bass-first tracks that DJs can slot into sets, and he brings the same structural focus to his own performances: tight mixing, selections that favour heavyweight low-end, and an ear for short, impactful transitions. His collaborations with Bru‑C, Slay and Chase & Status link him directly to vocal-led singles as well as club-focused instrumentals, showing a range between dancefloor rollers and radio-format DnB cuts.

Documented connections in his career are specific: feature on Bru‑C’s "Streetside" (Gold, UK No.84), "Closer" featuring Slay on Island Records (UK No.24), and "Baddadan" with Chase & Status (UK No.5). Those credits sit alongside his 2015 single "Movements" and his first set in 2014, forming the factual backbone of his public profile to date. Bou continues to produce and DJ from Manchester.
