Inja (born Gareth Hue) is a British MC, poet, vocalist and songwriter from Luton, Bedfordshire, now based in Cambridge. His recorded debut album, Blank Pages, was released on Hospital Records in 2018. Within drum and bass and jungle contexts he works as a performing MC and live vocalist and, according to his SoundCloud bio, he also incorporates DJing and mixing into his This Is Inja live shows.
Before Blank Pages he spent more than a decade as a spoken‑word performer, slam poet and educator. That spoken‑word background is central to his entry into the drum and bass scene: he moved from poetry stages and education work into collaborations with established producers and labels, bringing written lyricism and performance techniques from slam into club and studio settings.
As a vocalist and MC Inja’s style foregrounds spoken‑word cadence and narrative lyricism. He performs live vocals and MC rides rather than only shout‑style toasting; his delivery often follows the phrasing and timing of a poet on stage, which he layers over producers’ drum programming. Per his public profiles and recorded work, he blends live vocal takes, verse writing and spoken passages with DJ mixes in performance — a hybrid approach that places the voice as a lead instrument within drum and bass arrangements.
On record and in performance he has worked with producers including Pete Cannon, Serum, Logistics and Whiney. He has also appeared on releases with Kings Of The Rollers. His debut LP on Hospital Records, Blank Pages (2018), is the principal label release credited to him. Outside club releases, his spoken‑word piece for Amnesty International, “She Just Wanna Dance,” attracted media attention.
Inja continues to perform as an MC and live vocalist and to present This Is Inja shows that combine live vocal performance with DJing and mixing. The concrete credits to note: born Gareth Hue (Luton), based in Cambridge, over a decade as a slam poet and educator, Blank Pages on Hospital Records (2018), collaborations with Pete Cannon, Serum, Logistics and Whiney, appearances with Kings Of The Rollers, and the Amnesty International spoken‑word piece “She Just Wanna Dance.”
