Jamie McCool

Jamie McCool is a producer and singer-songwriter from County Armagh, Northern Ireland, now based in Rochdale, United Kingdom. His output sits across bassline, drum and bass, jungle, liquid funk, rage rap, retro pop, retro soul and UK garage.

McCool moved to Manchester at age 10 and began his career fronting the band Black Lights before moving into session writing and featured vocals for dance and drum & bass producers. He has worked as a songwriter and a featured vocalist on other producers’ tracks and is credited as a co-writer on the song "Counting On Me."

As a musical stylist, McCool’s work foregrounds vocal-led songwriting applied to electronic forms: his songs marry retro-soul and pop vocal phrasing with rhythm-driven electronic backdrops. Across projects he blends melodic hooks and lyrical top-lines with productions that reference bassline and UK garage pocketing, liquid-funk atmospherics and harder-edged drum and bass or jungle energy. He is regularly engaged for session vocals and topline writing, supplying finished vocal takes and written parts designed to sit over producers’ programmed breaks and bass arrangements.

In the studio McCool records and develops vocal arrangements and toplines alongside his songwriting partner Simon Pogson from their Rochdale studio. His credited releases include the collaboration "You My Friend" with BtheLick & DJ Clipps, a release that reached No. 1 on the Spotify Viral Charts in Germany and No. 12 on the Spotify Global Charts. Since 2022 he has returned to more visible featured vocal work and writing.

Since 2022 McCool’s credited collaborations include work with DJ Fresh, High Contrast, USED, Makoto and Eelke Kleijn. He also signed a publishing deal with Bucks Music Group, a concrete step that formalises his songwriting output and placements. Those collaborations span the range of his stated genres, from liquid and vocal-led DnB to tracks that draw on retro pop and soul sensibilities.

Specific public credits to note: frontman of Black Lights (earlier band role); credited co-writer on "Counting On Me"; featured artist on "You My Friend" with BtheLick & DJ Clipps (Spotify Viral #1 Germany, #12 Global); collaborations since 2022 with DJ Fresh, High Contrast, USED, Makoto and Eelke Kleijn; publishing deal with Bucks Music Group; studio and writing base in Rochdale working with Simon Pogson.

Public biographical detail beyond these credits is limited; what is verifiable is McCool’s movement from band frontman to session writer and featured vocalist, his co-writing credit on "Counting On Me," the charting of "You My Friend," his 2022-forward collaborations with named producers, his Bucks Music Group publishing deal, and his current songwriting work from a Rochdale studio with Simon Pogson.
