Mark van der Schoot (born 4 October 1990), known professionally as Maduk, is a Dutch producer and DJ based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Within drum and bass and jungle he is most often associated with liquid-style drum and bass and melodic DnB; his broader genre range listed with his work includes Bass Music, Brazilian Bass, Chillstep, Deathstep, Drumstep, Dubstep, EDM (including EDM Trap), Electro Swing, Future Bass, Melbourne Bounce, Melodic Bass, Moombahton, Portuguese Hip Hop, Riddim and Swing Music.
Maduk entered the scene in the early 2010s and is a co‑founder of the Liquicity YouTube channel and Liquicity Records. He rose to wider attention in the mid‑2010s: he won "Best Newcomer Producer" at the Drum and Bass Awards in 2014 and followed that with "Best Newcomer DJ" in 2015. Those recognitions, together with his label activity at Liquicity, helped establish his profile on both labels and digital platforms.
As a producer Maduk's sound foregrounds melody and clean low end. His productions typically layer bright, singable lead lines over warm, rounded sub‑bass; drums are mixed for clear transient attack and defined midrange to keep snares and hi‑hats present without masking the low frequencies. He frequently uses vocal fragments and processed chops as melodic hooks, with reverberant pads and delay on chordal elements to create width. The mixdowns on his releases emphasise punchy kick‑bass separation and polished high‑end clarity, and arrangements often build toward vocal or synth climaxes rather than long, abrasive drops — traits tied to the liquid and melodic strands of drum and bass found in his work.
Maduk has released music on Hospital Records, Liquicity Records, Viper Recordings, Fokuz Recordings, Monstercat and NCS. His debut album, Never Give Up, was released on Hospital Records on 29 April 2016. His second album, Transformations, was released via Liquicity Records on 10 September 2021. Those releases reflect both his role as a label artist on Hospital and his continued commitment to Liquicity as a platform and label outlet.
As a DJ Maduk combines his production sensibility with selection geared toward melodic and vocal-led material; his 2015 Drum and Bass Awards win for "Best Newcomer DJ" reflects his profile in clubs and events at that time. Beyond studio work, co‑founding the Liquicity channel/label ties him to curatorial and A&R activity that has promoted liquid‑lean material globally through playlists and releases.
Public statements about individual artists who directly influenced Maduk are limited in available sources. His discography and label associations, however, place him within the same circles as artists on Hospital Records and Liquicity Records, and his two full‑length albums (Never Give Up, 2016; Transformations, 2021) and releases across the labels listed above document his contribution to the melodic/liquid side of drum and bass. He remains based in Amsterdam.
