Excited to be hosting this at The Deli together with fantastic local producers and DJs lined up on the support - RiDylan live Jungle set, a nice showcase from Keegs and DJ Deckard, legendary Kir Mokum and the Elsewhere crew to finish the night.
PARADOX Live [UK]
Dev Pandya is a certified breakbeat addict with a vinyl production career spanning 30 years. With his first release back in 1992, he has since amassed a back catalogue of 10 vinyl albums and 200 12" singles on leading drum and bass labels including Moving Shadow, 4 Hero's Reinforced, LTJ Bukem's Good Looking, London Elektricity's Hospital and Goldie's Metalheadz.
The musical career of Dev Pandya dates back to 1990 when Mixrace was formed with partner DJ Trax. From their first releases in 1992 on leading hardcore label Moving Shadow, the pair continued with releases on their own label before Dev's two alter-ego aliases emerged in 1996.
Exploding across the scene with a string of 12″ releases on Timeless and Renegade Hardware, Total Science's CIA, the seminal Certificate 18 and Reinforced Records, Alaska and Paradox soon became names synonymous with deep atmospherics and intricate breaks.
His Alaska alias appeared at the same time, focusing on more ambient productions with releases on labels such as Good Looking, Renegade Recordings, Vibez, Blame's 720 Degrees and Tayla's Nexus label.
Producing alone under the names Paradox and Alaska, he also collaborates with Seba and Nucleus, as well as vocalists including Kirsty Hawkshaw and Robert Manos.
Dev is the only jungle artist invited to collaborate with the legendary Herbie Hancock for a drum and bass-jazz fusion piece and was personally invited by Richard D. James to perform alongside Aphex Twin.
RIDYLAN ///
Is RiDylan an artist or a vandal? Either way, he’s laser-focused on one thing — bombing your mind with his sound.
RiDylan is the alias of Dylan Gauthier from Vancouver, BC, where he’s heavily involved in the underground electronic music community.
RiDylan’s high-energy live PA performances span a wide variety of old-school and new-school rave sounds. He references acid, jungle, techno, breakbeat, electro, breakcore, and IDM, and makes no apologies for relentlessly switching things up.
KEEGS & DJ DECKARD ///
For the past few years, crate diggers and ecstatic breakbeat heads Keegs and Deckard have been pushing their unique takes on the foundational jungle/dnb sound. Their mutual love of breakbeat science comes through in their deep selections and contrasting styles; from early darkside hardcore, through ambient jungle, to the techier sounds of the late 90s, expect a comprehensive, heady B2B that reflects the years they've spent toiling in the wax mines and studying the history of the sound. Alongside local crews Deepwest Soundsystem and Textures Vancouver, the two are dedicated to spreading the gospel of breakbeat culture in BC.
KIR MOKUM ///
"We had two bags of white labels, seventy-five Bridge records, five sheets of old Metalheadz pr releases, a saltshaker half-full of Seba's hair, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored Good Looking, Prototype, Inperspective and Soul:R records. Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a copy of that 0=0 record that never came out on Planet Mu, and two dozen di mixers with no mids.
Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drum and bass collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the Calibre. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an Calibre binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."
