Gray

Gray is a British producer and DJ working primarily in drum and bass and jungle. Based in London, his output also pulls from dancehall and reggae and crosses into related bass music styles.

He emerged on the scene in late 2019 and broke out with the Rubadub EP (credited with Teej). Gray spent formative time in Bristol before relocating to London. He is associated with the Born On Road collective and has cited dancehall and reggae as core influences on his approach to tempo, rhythm and bass.

As a producer Gray pairs drum and bass tempos with reggae-leaning rhythmic patterns. His productions commonly anchor a rolling low end — sub-weight basslines that move off the downbeat — while percussion is arranged to leave space for vocal phrasing and patter derived from dancehall/ragga traditions. He uses chopped breakbeat programming rather than straight four-on-the-floor patterns, and often layers sparse atmospheric pads or field-recorded textures to create breathing room around the rhythm and bass.

Specific signature elements include a focus on riddim-influenced bass movement, syncopated snare-and-hat patterns that support dancehall-style vocal lines, and moments of stripped-back arrangement where bass and voice carry a track. These choices make his work sit between rollers and harder-edged bass music while remaining recognisably rooted in jungle/dnb tempos.

Gray's breakout release was the Rubadub EP (with Teej). Other named tracks and collaborations from public sources include "One Spliff" and a collaboration with A Little Sound titled "Memories." He has also produced a VIP mix with Sigma. On the performance side Gray has played UK venues and festivals including Printworks, Motion and Boomtown.

In recognition of his emergence on the circuit he received a Best Newcomer nomination at the 2020 Drum & Bass Arena Awards. He remains tied to the Born On Road collective and to the Bristol–London trajectory that shaped his early work.
